Profile of Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan - A soldier turned successful businessman

Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan is one of the most prominent business personalities of Bangladesh. He was born in 1946 and started his business life in 1980. Presently, he is the Chairman of Sunman Group and South Asian Airlines Limited.

Major (Retd) Mannan is also one of the Directors of Eastern Insurance Limited. People generally know him as one of the leaders of the garments industry of Bangladesh. He was among the first to realize that the RMG industry of Bangladesh can go far and acted upon it.

Sunman Group has 41 independent business firms working on different sectors of Bangladesh. The organization is involved in real estate, readymade garments, aviation, fishing, shipping, leasing, textiles, pharmaceuticals, beverage, converted natural gas and many others.

Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan has set up industries outside Bangladesh as well. He has industries in Cambodia and USA. He was the pioneer of the private helicopter service in Bangladesh.

Major (Retd) Mannan is also renowned as a politician and a social worker. He was elected a Member of Parliament in 1991 and 2001. Major (Retd) Mannan has also established several educational institutions throughout the country.
